Amazon Product Image Requirements (2026)

Amazon’s main product image has some of the strictest rules of any marketplace: a pure white background, a minimum size to enable zoom, and a product that fills most of the frame. Here’s exactly what’s required, sourced from Amazon’s own Seller Central help pages.

Amazon main image requirements at a glance

RequirementAmazon’s rule
BackgroundPure white, RGB 255,255,255. No props, text, logos, watermarks, or inset images.
Product framingThe product should fill 85–100% of the image frame.
Minimum sizeAt least 1000px on the longest side (enables zoom). 1600px+ recommended for a sharp zoom.
Maximum sizeUp to 10,000 × 10,000px.
File formatJPEG (recommended), PNG, TIFF, or GIF.
File sizeUp to 10MB, sRGB color space.
Other imagesSecondary images (2–9) can show angles, packaging, in-use shots, and infographics — the pure-white rule applies to the main image only.

Common reasons Amazon rejects an image

  • Off-white or gray background instead of true 255,255,255 — Amazon checks the RGB value directly.
  • Product too small in the frame, often from a full studio scene shrunk down instead of cropped in.
  • Text, a logo, or a watermark baked into the main image (fine on secondary images with different rules, not the main one).
  • Below 1000px on the longest side — zoom won’t activate and the listing can look unfinished.

Frequently asked questions

What background does Amazon require for the main product image?

A pure white background — RGB value 255, 255, 255 exactly. Amazon’s system checks the background color, and anything off pure white can be rejected or suppressed from search.

What’s the minimum image size for Amazon?

At least 1000 pixels on the longest side, which enables the zoom/hover feature on the listing. Amazon recommends 1600px or larger for a sharper zoom, up to a maximum of 10,000 × 10,000px.

How much of the frame should the product fill on Amazon?

Amazon’s guidance is 85% to 100% of the image frame. A product shot with a lot of empty white space around it is likely to fail this check.

Can I add text or a logo to my Amazon main image?

No. The main image must show only the product on white — no text, graphics, logos, watermarks, or additional objects. Those are allowed on some secondary images instead, under different rules.

Does FitMyPage guarantee Amazon will accept my image?

No. This is an automated estimate of resolution, background, and framing — not a certification. Amazon can still reject an image for reasons this tool doesn’t check, like trademark or content policy issues.
