Why Shipping Labels Print at the Wrong Size

Most carrier and marketplace PDFs are built on a full Letter or A4 page, with the label content placed in one corner alongside a receipt or instructions. Printed as-is on a 4×6 thermal printer, it either shrinks to fit the roll or gets sliced off.

Printing Tips

Print at Actual Size / 100%. Avoid "Fit to Page" or "Shrink oversized pages" in your print dialog — those settings rescale a page that FitMyPage already sized exactly for your printer, undoing the fix. Most print dialogs offer this as an explicit "Actual Size" or "100%" option instead of "Fit."

Desktop 4×6 thermal printers

Most direct-thermal desktop label printers (203 or 300 DPI) expect a page that is physically 4×6 inches. The 4×6 preset matches this exactly, so you can print at Actual Size with no scaling.

A6-based label stock

Some label stock and printers outside the US use the ISO A6 size (105 × 148mm) instead of 4×6 inches. FitMyPage includes A6 as a dedicated preset using its exact millimeter dimensions.

Standard inkjet/laser printers

If you're printing labels on a regular printer and cutting them by hand, a custom size — matching your label sheet's cell size — lets you fit the output to your paper.

How do I resize an 8.5×11 shipping label to 4×6?

Can I resize a PDF shipping label?

Yes — FitMyPage works with PDF shipping labels, including multi-page PDFs with several labels in one file. Upload the PDF, choose "All pages," and every page is converted in its original order.

What does SmartCrop do?

SmartCrop automatically looks for a label-shaped region of content on the page and crops to it. It only applies a crop when it's reasonably confident, and always tells you its confidence level — if it isn't sure, it leaves the safe full-page default in place so you can adjust manually instead of getting a bad guess.

Can I print the result on a thermal printer?

Yes. FitMyPage outputs a standard PDF at your chosen physical size, which works with any printer that accepts a normal print job or PDF file — including direct-thermal desktop label printers. Print at Actual Size / 100%, not "Fit to Page."

Does resizing affect barcode quality?

FitMyPage crops and scales your PDF's original vector content directly, instead of flattening it into an image first, which helps keep barcode lines and text sharp wherever the source PDF allows it — and the crop is always locked to your target aspect ratio so barcodes aren't stretched unevenly. That said, resizing does change the barcode's physical dimensions, so always preview the result and scan a test print before running an important batch. What output sizes are supported?

4 × 6 inches (the standard for most direct-thermal desktop label printers), 4 × 4 for square labels, A6 (105 × 148mm) for label stock sized in millimeters, or a Custom size in inches or millimeters for anything else.

Can I crop the label manually if SmartCrop misses it?

Yes, always. Switch to Manual Crop and drag the crop box or its corner handle, or use the arrow keys (with Shift to resize) for keyboard control. SmartCrop is a heuristic, not a guarantee — Manual Crop is always available as a fallback.
